Report #19 -- 22 June 2009


Summertime, and the living is easy. Sorry this is a day late, but the housebuilding has been racking my brain lately. This week's poem is a great memory and celebration of summer. It's called "Tawas Point, Earlier (Larus Argentatus)" about an aspect of Michigan I greatly miss, and a dear friend I also miss.

The song this week is from a live Tom Waits show in Sydney, Australia in 1979. He mixes his song "Burma Shave" with my favorite song of all time, "Summertime" by Dubose Heyward from Porgy & Bess. Tom's take on it is too long for this show, so I had to edit out most of the Burma Shave portion. To atone for that crime, here's the whole thing from another concert:
