This week's poem is by William Heyen from his book Crazy Horse in Stillness (BOA Editions, 1996). "Before" offers us a glimpse of the American West before there was such a thing as "America," before there was a concept of "west," before human eyes and minds and bullets touched the landscape.
The music for this week is called "Fountain" from one of my all-time favorites: 19 Moons by Faruq Z. Bey & The Northwoods Improvisers. Featuring Bey on alto and tenor saxes, Mike Gilmore on vibes and bone guitar, Mike Johnston on bass, Nick Ashton on drums, Len Bukowski on clarinet, and Patrick Boyer on Tambura.
